NSW: Former Olympics boss heads up central coast development org
By Lisa Davies
SYDNEY, Dec 17 AAP - Former Sydney Olympics boss Sandy Hollway will head a new organisation
to enhance the NSW central coast's economy.
Mr Hollway today said he was very pleased to be appointed chairman of the Central Coast
Economic Development Organisation, and looked forward to working with local, state government
and tourism representatives.
The board would begin to develop a business plan after its first meeting at the end
of February, 2002, he said.
The plan aimed to consolidate local businesses, encourage homegrown enterprise development
and target external investment into the area.
"Its very important to preserve the wonderful and distinctive lifestyle of the central
coast, and to preserve the magnificent environment of the area at the same time as creating
jobs," Mr Hollway said.
"So we're after the sort of business development that realises that the lifestyle and
the environment are not at odds with economic development.
"We want the sort of business that sees those as an economic asset."
The group is an amalgamation of the Central Coast Regional Development Corporation
and the Central Coast Economic Development Board.
The Minister Assisting the Premier for the Central Coast, John Della Bosca, said Mr
Hollway was ideal for the job after running "the best Olympic Games ever".
The 11-member board will be announced early in 2002.
