NSW:Crash leaves elderly man a quadriplegic

SYDNEY, Dec 26 AAP - An elderly man has been left a quadriplegic after a four-car crash
at Wahroonga in Sydney's north.

The incident closed the northbound lanes of the F3 freeway at 10.15pm (AEDT) on Christmas Day.

Police believe a Toyota towing a trailer braked suddenly about 600m north of Pennant
Hills Road, leading to the pile-up.

In the Toyota was a 37-year-old Penrith man, his wife, 35 and three children aged 11,
nine and eight. All were unhurt.

A family of five in a Suzuki and a Nissan with five people on board also escaped unhurt.

But the 77-year-old driver of a Hyundai sustained neck fractures, leaving him a quadriplegic.

His 66-year-old female passenger sustained minor fractures.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
